Additional Tummy Shield Information
- Patented design redirects the seat belt, securing the seat belt at the leg, not the across the low belly where it can injure your unborn baby
- Stainless steel plate and anchor construction ensures it is as at least as strong as the seat belt and holds the seat belt firmly in place without slippage or excessive slack
- Fits in seconds and easy to move back and forth between driver's seat and passenger seat or car to car.
- When is the perfect time to start using a Tummy Shield? When you start buying maternity clothes. By then, the pregnancy starts to move outside the protection of the pelvic bones.
As you make room in your life for baby, make room in your budget for safety from the start.
DO PREGNANT WOMEN REALLY NEED A SPECIAL SEAT BELT?
In a word, YES. More than 170,000 pregnant women are involved in car accidents every year, resulting in thousands of lost pregnancies or injuries to the baby. Some of the injuries can cause pregnancy complications which can be life-threatening to the mom-to-be. You see, the existing seat belt system was not designed or tested to protect women who are driving while pregnant; in fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the current seat belt system exposes an inherent risk for injury, or even death, to an unborn baby.
This is because the standard seat belt is designed to secure an occupant in the car seat by engaging the hip bones. However, beginning at the start of the second trimester, your unborn baby moves above and in front of your hip bones—directly beneath the seat belt. When engaged by an accident, or even a sudden stop, the belt compresses with extreme speed and force, violently displacing and even crushing your unborn baby.

HOW DOES THE TUMMY SHIELD PROTECT MY UNBORN BABY?
The Tummy Shield’s specially-engineered, single-piece assembly could one day save the life of your unborn child or protect your baby from a severe brain or spinal injury. Our patented design secures the seat belt at the leg, not the belly or hips where it can crush your unborn baby. Unlike other pregnancy seat belt positioners, stainless steel construction ensures the Tummy Shield will not crack or break upon impact. Our patented hook design prevents slippage and slack in the belt, ensuring the belt stays in place to protect both the driver and the baby in the event of a car accident while pregnant.
Plus, The Tummy Shield eliminates the pain and discomfort of the standard seat belt by eliminating the pressure on your pregnant belly and, unlike a curled towel, pillow or hand placed between you and your seat belt - or not wearing the seat belt at all which is never a safe solution, it’s safe. Protect the life of your unborn child with The Tummy Shield!
Pregnant drivers and passengers simply place The Tummy Shield on the car seat, wrap the attached belt around the seat, and secure it with the buckle. When seated, buckle the seat as usual, pull the lap portion down and insert into Tummy Shield anchor, then pull the seat belt snug.
IS THE TUMMY SHIELD SAFETY-TESTED?
To ensure the safety of pregnant occupants and their unborn babies, Tummy Shield has undergone extensive testing. Crash tests validate the vehicle's seat belt performance remains compliant with applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards while using the Tummy Shield and the Tummy Shield. Tensile strength tests conclude the Tummy Shield is strong enough to hold up to crash energy without breaking. As far as we've been able to determine, Tummy Shield is the ONLY pregnancy seat belt positioner that was strength and crash tested for safety.

The manufacturer did many rounds of crash testing during development to perfect the engineering and safety results from the Tummy Shield.
If you see any parts of these videos in relation to any other product, it is being inaccurately used and a copyright violation. These crash tests are ONLY in relation to the Tummy Shield. As far as we’ve been able to find, Tummy Shield is the ONLY crash tested pregnancy seat belt adjuster.
IS THE TUMMY SHIELD JUST FOR PREGNANT WOMEN?
No! The Tummy Shield can also protect the abdominal area during any number of medical procedures or conditions, including:
- gastric bypass
- lap band
- gall bladder
- tummy tuck
Beware of fake Tummy Shield-like products
The original Tummy Shield is highly engineered, strength tested and crash tested to ensure it will hold up in a crash and offer better protection to the pregnant woman. Unfortunately, there are counterfeit and similar looking products available online making similar claims but without the crash worthy materials or crash testing behind them. Since there are currently no federal standards for seat belt safety for pregnant women, it is "legal" to sell these products. Our goal is to eventually have the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to set standards. Our number one priority is the safety of our customers so we want to spread awareness about these ineffective pregnancy seat belt products because they will most likely fail during a crash creating increased potential for injury.
